Meet Scott Hammond | Scott Hammond for Nevada State Senate District 18
Scott Hammond was born in New York and raised in Alaska where he attended school and graduated from Delta Junction High School. After high school Scott attended the University of Alaska, Fairbanks where he played basketball. Scott transferred to UNLV where he finished his bachelor's and master's degrees in political science and earned his teaching certificate. Scott taught government and Spanish for the Clark County School District for 16 years, while also teaching political science at UNLV. Scott is now the Assistant Principal at Somerset Lone Mountain Academy.
In 2010 Scott was elected to represent Assembly District 13. During the legislative session Scott served on the Judicial, Health and Human Services and Transportation committees. In 2012 Scott was elected to the Senate to represent District 18.
His service in the Senate includes:
- Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee
- Vice-Chair of the Senate Education Committee
- A member of the Judicial and Government Affairs committees
Scott has lived in Senate District 18 for the last 15 years and loves being a part of this vibrant community. Scott has been a High School basketball coach, youth leader and is currently active in the Boy Scouts of America. As a High School Spanish Club adviser, he has taken students all over Central America and Spain. One of Scott's accomplishments is as a founding board member of Somerset Academy, a highly successful charter school with five Las Vegas campuses.
Scott has been married to Tonya for 23 years. Four wonderful children have blessed their marriage. Scott and Tonya are both members of Families Supporting Adoption.
